Therapy and prognosis of extraoral malignant melanoma metastasizing to the jaw: case report and literature review.
2009
t a d With approximately 75% of all skin cancer-related deaths, malignant melanoma (MM) is the most lethal among common skin cancers, mostly because of its disposition to early lymphogenic and hematogenic metastasis. If a MM is diagnosed early, the overall prognosis is excellent, but once metastasized it becomes an incurable disease with high mortality. Prognosis is dependent on parameters such as gender, anatomic location, level of invasion, thickness, type of primary tumor, ulceration, and number and status of regional lymphatic nodes. For incidence and mortalty, a decrease in young but an increase in older roups—with geographic differences—has been reported. Because of the embryologic or…
In vitro retention capacity of two overdenture attachment systems: Locator® and Equator®
2018
Background It is necessary to know the in vitro behavior of different attachment systems to be used clinically. The evolution of retention capacity over 10 years (14,600 insertion/de-insertion cycles) was determined in vitro, evaluating two overdenture attachment systems (Locator® and OT Equator®). Material and methods The study used an implant replica compatible with the abutments of both systems. 10 Locator® and 10 OT Equator® attachments were screwed to the abutments. Nylon inserts were attached and tested, subjecting them to 14,600 insertion and de-insertion cycles (representing 10 years functional life) in axial direction. The universal test machine crosshead speed was 50 mm/min with a…
Stress distribution in fixed mandibular prostheses fabricated by CAD/CAM and conventional techniques: Photoelastic and strain gauge analyses
2019
Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T00:55:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-09-01 The aim of this study was to evaluate the distribution of stress in complete fixed mandibular prostheses with infrastructures (IE) fabricated with different materials and techniques, under compressive force. A model of an edentulous mandible, which received five 4x11 mm external hexagon implants between the mental foramens, was fabricated. The groups were divided into: Group I - IE in nickel-chromium with an acrylic resin occlusal coating; Group II - IE in nickel-chromium with a ceramic occlusal coating; Group III - IE milled in zirconia with a ceramic coating. For the photoelastic m…
